Burbage Police Weekly Update. Drink Drive, Community Engagements, Rogue Traders And Have You Lost A Car Key? |
||||||
|
Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week.
Reported Crime and Appeals
Arrested and charged We attended a report of a road traffic collision on Victoria Road involving 3 vehicles, 2 of which were stationary. Thankfully, and very fortunately, there were no injuries, but there were some very upset and shaken residents/vehicle owners. As a result, one person was arrested and then charged with drink driving. It is horrific to think of the damage that would have been caused had this been a person rather than a vehicle that got hit.
As a general message, after years of education and laws enforcement, you would hope that people understand the potential consequences of driving whilst unfit. This type of behaviour puts everyone at risk and one stupid and selfish decision can change lives forever.
Road traffic accidents happen for a range of reasons from drink/drug drive, medical episodes, to road rage and speeding. PLEASE ensure that before you go out in a vehicle, you are physically and mentally in a position to do so. One bad decision can have horrific consequences that you and others will have to live with forever. Please see the below website for further information. We received a call regarding 2 intruders near the scout hut at the Burbage Parish council on the 8th of March between 18:55-19:00. It does not appear anything was taken from the area and it is believed the suspects came from, and left towards Coventry Road (through the field). If you have any CCTV in this area, please get in touch. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk Officers immediately attended the area, including the Police dog, to complete an area search.
Other work this week includes responding to neighbour disputes and some youth related concerns. Since our last update, there have been 25 calls to Police which includes 7 emergency calls and 3 priority calls.
Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
Several stop searches completed on Watling Street, by officers in the area. A small quantity of class A seized at 22:15 on the 8th of March.
We have been out and about all over Burbage completing patrols. We visited the Burbage farmers market and engaged with residents and stall holders. Keep a look out for events in May for the Burbage community arts festival (See picture), from 29th April until 17th of May. Hopefully the weather picks up before then.
We completed some partnership working with HBBC, Hinckley fire and rescue and several local councillors on Duport Road and Forryan Road this morning. We completed door knocks in these areas where we spoke to residents around any concerns they have in the area, as well as the fire brigade offering smoke alarm checks. Issues discussed include parking and cold callers.
Crime prevention and issues to be aware of
Have you lost a car key? We have had a Vauxhall car key handed in that was found on Hinckley Road Park. Pop me an email if it is yours.
Whilst there have been limited reports of residential burglary and car theft, please continue to be mindful around home security, especially with the Easter holidays coming up. If you have any concerns or would like any crime reduction advice, please feel free to get in touch. If you are soon to be off on holiday, PLEASE remove or ensure high value items such as jewellery and cash are well hidden. Use light timers, ensure CCTV is working and recording, check outdoor lighting is working, ensure house alarms are set, and see if you can get a family member or trusted neighbour to regularly check on your property. If you have a vehicle left at home, please use a steering lock and driveway bollards/gate if you have them.
Cold callers. Please be very mindful of anyone cold calling, offering gardening services or repairs. We are hearing reports of overcharging, shoddy work, and aggressive sales which includes pumping the price up after work has been done. Please visit this link to find out more and protect yourself. Thank you and take care.
